How do I get ET to work on Ubuntu 12.04?

Postby Unit » Sat May 31, 2014 4:13 pm

Hello Everyone, I recently re-imaged my computer and my OS is now Ubuntu 12.04.

I felt like playing some ET, but when I opened up Wine and selected ET.exe it loaded up the console but then in the console it said something about a UI file, I'll check later and get the exact message.

So has anyone here used or uses Linux? :P
And if so has anyone encountered this error?

Well, if your using "ET.exe" then you're doing it wrong. You need to download the Linux version of ET from the Splash Damage website which (when installed) should have "ET.x86" instead of "ET.exe". Also don't forget to save your ETkey.

http://www.splashdamage.com/content/dow ... -territory - click the button at the bottom which says "Download Wolf: ET for Linux". ;)

Just curious, but why did you choose Linux? :P I installed it a while ago, but can't really seem to find why I should use it. Maybe you can change my mind :P

Well, I honestly still prefer Windows XP to Linux, but I had to re-image my computer because I had a bad hard drive and then XP isn't supported anymore :P

Linux is nice though, WINE(Windows Emulator) works well; however, for games that don't work without the disk you need to get no-cd cracks for them :P

and they have a great selection of games for free-download in the software center, they even have Wolf3D. :)

If I could choose any OS though, I would still choose XP :P

Hola,

Whyyyyyyy??????????? :ask: :ask: :ask: wine isn't needed for ETWolf.

ETWolf is an opensource and multiplatform game, it is available for Windows, Linux (in your case Ubuntu, I recommend to you to put the recentoly version ;) ) and MacOS.

So wine isn't needed. You need to download the .run file and then... wait a sec, i do a tutorial for install and run ET on linux ;)

About Windows XP; you do realize it's not supported, thus not safe to use anymore? If a breach is found by hackers or something, Microsoft won't bring out updates to fix it. This means you're in bigger 'danger' of getting hacked or something. Installing Windows 7 or 8 would be a good thing to do :P
